He’s a powerful landowner…

She’s an irresistible wallflower…

For nearly a year, Victoria Leighton has shut out the world. Her sole focus
has been on paying off the debt she inherited from her husband and securing
a comfortable income. Unaccustomed to independence, to stepping out into
Society and getting noticed, she ignores the cravings of her heart. Until a
stranger arrives on her doorstep and presents her with a daring
invitation.

Colin West hates complications. But when he seeks shelter from a storm and
meets a reclusive widow, instinct compels him to save her from her
self-imposed prison. Soon, he’s hosting a house party and doing his
best not to fall for the quick-witted lady. To do so would be disastrous.
For if the scars he received in war have taught him anything, it is that he
is incapable of instilling desire in any woman, never mind
love…

INTERVIEW

  1. How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

Thank you so much for having me today! I’ve written forty-seven books and will soon start work on my forty-eighth one. My favorite is probably Mr. West and The Widow. I’m very happy with how it came together, both as a story in its own right but also as a conclusion to the series as a whole.

  1. If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?

Mr. West and The Widow is the final book in the Brazen Beauties trilogy so I’ll be embarking on a new project now.

  1. Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I do try to write my books so readers can enjoy them even if they’ve not read the prequels. That said, the next series I’m planning will be most enjoyable if the books are read in order since it will follow two main characters across nine books.

  1. How did you come up with the title for your book?

With difficulty! The titles for my Brazen Beauties series were some of the easiest ones. They’re pretty simple. Generally, it’s not even the title itself that’s a struggle, but rather figuring out a ‘title theme’ so the books sound like they’re part of the same series. It can take weeks and doesn’t always happen until I’ve written the first book. What tends to help is jotting down key words used in the genre and then looking at how to string them together in a new way.

  1. How long did it take you to write this book?

It took about two months to get the first draft written.

  1. What does the title mean?

I think it’s pretty self-explanatory…lol

  1. What did you learn when writing the book?

A lot of interesting information pertaining to Regency period farming practices. I did a lot of research on growing crops, harvesting, and treating wheat diseases. Researching George Washington’s treading barn was fascinating. He created a barn where horses would trot over sheaves of wheat on an upper level. This separated the grain from the straw and pushed it through slats in the floor to a collection area below. Ingenious!

  1. What surprised you the most?

How easy it was to write this book. It’s quite a complex story, but I did a lot of plotting in order to avoid the re-write issues I had with the prequel. As a result, the book came together much easier than I expected.

  1. Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?

No.

  1. What do you do to get inside your character’s heads?

I ‘build them’ using a long list of prompts. By the time I start writing, I know where they were born, which relationships shaped their personalities, what their favorite food, novel, childhood experience is, what their likes, dislikes, fears, and aspirations might be. I’ve got forty-eight prompts that I fill in for my main characters, at which point I have a fairly good sense of who they are as people.
