When Lark Cavanaugh’s life in New York City falls apart, she’s left reeling from a staggering betrayal. She escapes to Cape Cod, where a distant relative has left her an old house with a tragic past. Rumors of a
haunting presence plague the abandoned home, but Lark doesn’t believe in ghosts…until she has no choice.

After completing his military duty, veterinarian Jesse Holt returns to his small hometown to take over his father’s practice. He soon finds himself drawn to the alluring redhead now living next door, but she has made her intentions clear—she’s moving back to the city as soon as
possible. When frightening events threaten her safety, though, he can’t deny his protective instincts.

Unable to fight their feelings, they give in to desire…but another battle looms. Lark’s arrival has awakened a decades-old mystery, and the truth of what happened at Holloway House will only be revealed when it claims yet another life.

EXCERPT

She bolted upright in bed, the series of thumps that had awakened her still ringing in her ears. Fumbling for the light, she pulled the covers against her chest, as though that could offer some protection against whatever had made the noises. What the hell was it? She scanned the room, her pulse skittering in jagged bursts. Why was this happening to her? Hadn’t she been through enough?

Nothing in the bedroom appeared to be the source of the disturbance, but her instincts told her the sounds had originated from somewhere else in the house. And it definitely wasn’t the cat this time—he was still at the vet’s.

Reaching for her phone, she sucked in a breath as she noticed the time…1:06 a.m. Exactly the same time she’d been awoken last night. She glanced back up to the hallway door as she jabbed at the screen, pulling up the keypad just in case she needed to call 911. In addition to occurring at the same time, though, whatever she’d just heard sounded similar to last night’s mysterious disturbance, and that hadn’t been an intruder. Not a living one, anyway.

As if on cue, a haunting moan shivered through the air. Her lungs froze as a fresh spike of fear pierced her chest. Oh, God. There really was something wrong with this house. Fighting the urge to dive back under the covers and hide, she slowly climbed out of bed, unsure what exactly she was going to do. Check the house, for starters, she decided. Her mind was still begging for a more reasonable, less terrifying scenario. A quirky appliance, maybe?

With each tentative step, she paused, waiting for something else to happen. As she made her way into the hall, a chill enveloped her, and she crossed her arms, rubbing the goosebumps rising on her skin. Below her, the stairway unfurled into shadows cast by the upper hall light.

A loud crash rang out behind her, and she jumped, a scream tearing from her lips.

“Eriq La Salle has emerged as a terrific writer with unique gifts.” ―Don Winslow, #1 international bestselling author

A war is brewing in New York City, and no one can stop it.

With grit, relentless action, and twists you’ll never see coming, Laws of Annihilation is the third installment in the highly-acclaimed Martyr Maker series by Eriq La Salle.

It’s another blistering summer in New York City, and a sweltering heat wave stifles the area. Hostility between the Hasidic and Black communities has been steadily increasing since a tragic incident left a Black teenager dead. When two rabbis are killed in a gruesome attack on their synagogue, it has all the signs of retaliation.

The entire city is on edge.

Through it all, Agent Janet Maclin’s dreams of becoming the FBI’s first female director come crashing down when she receives some devastating news. In spite of it all, she’s determined to help NYPD detectives Quincy Cavanaugh and Phee Freeman find the rabbis’ killer as more hate crimes put the city on the brink of all-out war. As the body count climbs with the temperature and the tensions, time is running out for Maclin in more ways than one.

Apart from his critically-acclaimed thriller titles, La Salle is a masterful mystery/crime storyteller. He may be best known for his acting roles in productions such as ER, Coming to America, and Logan, but his background in crime fiction was finely honed as he directed and executive produced countless episodes of popular shows such as Law & Order, Law and Order SVU, Law & Order: Organized Crime, CSI: NY, and Chicago PD with Dick Wolf.

Praise for Eriq La Salle’s Martyr Maker Series

“Laws of Wrath is all thriller; no filler―a white knuckled treat.”

―James Patterson, New York Timesbestselling author

“Laws of Depravity is a gritty crime thriller, spiritual quest, and love story all woven into one compelling tale.”

―Publishers Weekly

“Fast paced…Characters are richly textured [and] none is without faults.”

―Kirkus Reviews, for Laws of Wrath

Review

Laws of Annihilation definitely kept me reading as it hooked me right from the start and didn’t let up.

As far as the writing, it was well done. The story flowed well and is easily followed, the characters are vastly interesting, good and bad, each had their own motives and La Salle does a great job of putting the reader in their minds.

If you like mysteries, this book will hold your interest. Fast moving and exciting.

Overall this book was just a gem, I enjoyed the continuous plot twists & turns!

High up in the Smoky Black Mountains, Amansun and his family live among the
great colony of dragons who call the steep and jagged mountain range home.
Though Amansun is the eldest of his dragon clutch, he often feels like an
outcast, and he spends most of his time venturing to the Great Forest up
North, where he finds peace and solitude. His life is one dreary day after
another—until one day when he sets into motion something that impacts
the entire colony, putting him and his family at odds with the rest of the
dragons.

The elders of the colony decide to send Amansun on a perilous quest to
remedy his mistake, but there is little hope he will succeed. Along the way,
he encounters elves, dwarves, stone trolls, and centaurs, all of whom choose
to either help or hinder in his quest; he travels farther than he thought
possible, across the Barren Plains, past the Old Great Forest, and to a
mysterious and dark final destination; and he faces questions about his
morals and his place in the world.

All mysteries will be answered along the way, and a prophecy of old may
even prove to be true. Only time will tell.

About the Author

This love of fantasy stayed with him as he grew up, and it is what inspired him to write high fantasy novels like Amansun the Dragon Prince today. “America” Oh, Say Can You See by John E. Suraj Persad #promo #political #nonfiction #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

OH, AMERICA, CAN YOU REALLY SEE? “TROUBLE AHEAD FOR AMERICA”

Political Nonfiction

Date Published: August 30, 2023

Publisher:
Bookmarketeers.com

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

This book places the reader in the correct frame of mind to grasp the
gravity of the situation facing America and comprehend the downward spiral
we have entered collectively as a nation. The United States’ hegemony,
competitive advantage, economic interests, national security, social
construct, morality, and military capability are being threatened and
contested on multiple levels, internally and externally. The global
situation has escalated to a point where our past global retreats and
inactions are forcing us to face significantly more risk. It is imperative
that we adopt a more deliberate and strategic foreign policy posture, spend
substantially more on targeted foreign investments, reengage partners, fix
our sociocultural crisis, and develop new alliances to not fade away into
irrelevance as so many great empires did throughout history.

Oh, say, can you see “America” is written with the intention of
giving busy readers and the electorate a summary perspective on several
different issues that affect us singularly as a nation, regionally as a
country, and globally as a competing power. In the context of writing
styles, this book has an aura of simplification and reiterating points
throughout the book that I wanted to drive home. It is purposefully done to
give the reader a “common sense” perspective rather than a
scholastic paper filled with dry facts and data. Hopefully, this book will
create more questions than answers and spark lively debates among families,
friends, and colleagues. Please ask the tough questions, debate with an open
mind, do not follow talking points, get information from different sources
on both sides, and then use your common sense to see the truth of actions.
You may not agree with some points, but it is always beneficial to look at
varying perspectives, especially with so much on the line. To help the
reader connect the dots on America’s domestic spiral, the book will look
through a political, cultural, and social lens to tease out socio-political
issues impacting society and how the ramifications of these actions have
created the downward spiral our great nation is in today.

To reiterate, this book is purposed to not only wet the reader’s appetite
but to make you think, ask the hard questions, and become knowledgeable and
engaged in the democratic process of our nation, regardless of political
persuasion. Might I remind the readers that politics is there to serve us in
the governance of the country, not live in our “head space,” and
it must be returned to its rightful place in society so we as a people can
come together as “One Nation Under God” and most importantly,
“Under One Flag.”

VICAR BREKONRIDGE by Richard Helms #promo #releaseday #newbooks #giveaway #historical #mystery #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

 Historical Mystery

Date Published: 10-23-2023

Publisher: Level Best Books’ Historia Imprint

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

A historical mystery based on Helms’ Derringer Award-nominated EQMM short story “The Cripplegate Apprehension”.

In 1843 London, a Scottish woodturner named Daniel M’Naghten gunned down Edward Drummond, the private secretary to Prime Minister Robert Peel, while Drummond strolled the streets of Whitehall. M’Naghten believed he shot the Prime Minister and, after being informed otherwise and making a brief statement at his arraignment, he never spoke in public about the crime again. M’Naghten was represented at trial by firebrand Queen’s Counsel Alexander Cockburn, who intended to plead insanity and rewrite four hundred years of English Common Law in the process. In this fictional retelling of the famous historical event, Cockburn recruits legendary London thief-taker Vicar Brekonridge to travel to Glasgow, M’Naghten’s home, and find witnesses who can bolster the insanity defense. What Brekonridge finds instead suggests that M’Naghten was part of a frightening conspiracy to bring down the British government.

 PRAISE FOR VICAR BREKONRIDGE

“In a seamless blending of historical fact and narrative skill, Richard Helms reimagines the sensational case of Daniel M’Naghten, whose 1843 murder trial set a precedent that reverberates to this day. Helms has crafted a thoroughly gripping historical mystery that will leave readers eager to hear more of the “notorious thief-taker” Vicar Brekonridge.

—Daniel Stashower, Edgar Award Winning Author of American Demon

“VICAR BREKONRIDGE may be one of (Richard Helms’) more intriguing creations…a fascinating character to follow around, as he makes his way through the streets and back alleys of London, through its open air markets and dingy taverns or journeying out to Newgate Prison to visit a man he put there…For all his rough-and-tumble manners, cynical bravado, mercenary motives and sliding scale honesty, in a shady profession not particularly known for its integrity, he struts through the streets of London, a cloud of hemp in his wake, hewing to some inexplicable personal code that betrays a startling even-minded empathy for the criminals he hunts down, and a concern for — of all things — justice, which reminded me of Sam Spade‘s moral ambivalence. “

—Kevin Burton Smith, Thrilling Detective Website

Autobiography Poetry

Date Published: October 21st 2023

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Step into the lyrical world of Lost Boyz To Men: From My Heart To Your Eyez
where each poem is a portal into the depths of the human experience.

Prepare to be ushered into an intimate poetic journey that spans the raw recesses of the human experience. This isn’t just an autobiography; it’s a
lyrical testament to the resilience of the spirit and the transformative power of words.

Each poem serves as a window, shedding light on the myriad phases of the author’s life. From the naive wonders of childhood, through the turbulent storms of adolescence, and into the reflective introspections of adulthood, every poem is a snapshot, capturing moments that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Trials lay the groundwork. These poems echo with heartbreaks, missed opportunities, and battles with inner struggles. The poet doesn’t shy away from the darkness that sometimes shrouds life, instead choosing to confront it head-on with words that both sting and soothe.

Transparency is where the soul of the book truly shines. While observing these poems the readers will find brutally honest reflections on the self, unfiltered emotions, and revelations about the author’s struggles with identity, relationships, and purpose. These poems act as confessions, giving voice to the silent sufferings and hidden yearnings that many of us feel but are often too afraid to express.

And finally, in Triumph, the tone evolves from despair to determination, from contemplation to celebration. The poems here are tributes to victories big and small—overcoming past traumas, finding love in unexpected places, and embracing one’s own uniqueness. They resonate with hope, reminding readers that after every storm, there’s a rainbow waiting to be discovered.

Accompanied by original illustrations that mirror the evocative nature of the poems, Lost Boyz To Men is more than a collection of words. It’s a symphony of emotions, a manifesto of survival, and a beacon of hope. Readers will emerge from its pages with a renewed appreciation for life’s highs and
lows, and the preciousness of each moment in between.

About the Author

Marquis “Red” Jackson’s story is one of redemption, resilience, and determination. Once a troubled teenager lost in a haze of misdirection and rebellion, Red’s life was a storm of poor decisions and missed opportunities. The streets knew him, not as a menace, but as one of its many
lost souls searching for meaning in all the wrong places.

Yet, even in the darkest moments, a spark of potential always flickered within him. That spark, however faint, caught the attention of those who saw
more in Red than he saw in himself. Through the intervention of mentors, compassionate family members, and moments of profound realization, Red began a difficult journey towards self-awareness and redemption.

Today, Red is a beacon of hope for many. He celebrates a blissful 17-year marriage with his best friend and confidante, Brandy. Their partnership is a testament to love’s enduring power to heal and inspire. Together, they have brought four beautiful children into the world, each a reflection of their unwavering commitment to family and to creating a brighter future.

Red’s past now serves as a powerful tool in his mission to help others. His testimony encourages young individuals on the cusp of despair, showing them that change is possible, and that life’s darkest moments can lead to its brightest days. His story is a constant reminder that redemption is always within reach, and that with love, patience, and perseverance, anyone can transform their story into one of triumph.
