The town of Marysburg, Indiana, is buzzing with excitement when legendary British blues guitarist Derek Tufnell appears at Marysburg Music to sign autographs and chat with fans the afternoon before a performance at the Marysburg Center for the Performing Arts. The meet-and-greet session is a huge success and record store owner Darcy Gaughan couldn’t be more pleased with how the event went.

Darcy’s glee turns to despair when, only hours later, Derek is found murdered in his dressing room. Fingers are pointed at her, since she was the last one seen with him. In order to keep her freedom, and the record store open, Darcy begins her own investigation and soon finds the number of suspects is exceeded only by the number of hit songs in Derek’s music catalog.

Bevil Cyrex, adrift in space on a ship determined to kill him, stumbles
across an ancient and abandoned space station called The Starlite.

Once on board the station he sets about repairing it, with the goal of
opening up for business.

Along the way he befriends a possibly sociopathic, all powerful nanite
swarm, who has decided to take on the appearance and mannerisms of his
grandmother.

He must also contend with being hunted by an ex-mob enforcer looking for
revenge, a handful of pirates and various threats of invasion, marriage and
death.

All in all, Bevil would have to admit, things were really looking up.

Excerpt

Chapter 1

The phone was ringing. It would not stop ringing. Bevil knew that if he did not pick up the phone it would continue to ring. Then it would stop. Then it would ring again. The flashing name on the screen to his left sent dread throughout his entire body; it was one word, one name, MOM.

Bevil answered, “Hi, mom!” he said with as much gaiety as he could muster.

“Bevil, dear, it’s mom.”

“Yes mom I know.” Bevil’s mom had been calling everyday for the last two weeks. Usually he would speak to his parents once a week, maybe once every other week, but with the big Jamboree coming up things were getting a little intense.

“I wanted to talk to you about the Jamboree if you have time, dear,” said his mother in that lilting yet authoritative tone that made it very clear that she didn’t care if he had the time, they were definitely going to talk about it.

“What’s up?”

“Well, we just got word that both the Majere and the Fireforge will be able to attend.”

“Uh huh.” Bevil braced himself for what was coming next.

“I have spoken to the captains of both ships and they are very interested in having you meet a couple of very eli- gible young ladies,” said his mother.

“Okay, mom.” Bevil needed to phrase this next bit care- fully. “But are you sure we want to ally ourselves with the Majere or Fireforge?”

“Bevil Cyrex! You know good and well that we have been allied with those ships for generations. Now you listen to me, young man. I am very happy you’ve been having fun out there, but you are going to come home and we are going to find you a wife!”

Bevil knew his mom wasn’t really angry, she simply missed him and was worried about him. As the ship’s Exec- utive Matron she was also obsessed with keeping the genetic makeup of the Cyrex as diverse as possible, which meant pairing people up at functions such as the one upcoming.

Bevil was not close to being ready to get married. He also wasn’t brave enough to tell his mother that, so he most likely was going to get married. The brave live beautifully but cowards live long, as the old saying goes.

He’d been on his own now for going on five years, just him and Bethany. There were times he was lonely and lots of times he missed his family, but at twenty two, Bevil just did not want to go home yet, if ever. The idea of taking a respectable position on the Cyrex and starting a family filled him with absolute dread.

From a lifetime of experience Bevil knew he could never win an argument with his mother. There was only one thing he could do, lie and fake it. “Okay, mom,” he said. “But, I’m not just going to settle down with someone because she’s from a ship you think is good for us. If I don’t like her I’m not doing it.”

“Of course, dear, I would never want you to marry someone you didn’t want to marry, just to make me happy,” lied Bevil’s mother.

“Thanks, mom. Can I talk to dad?”

A second later he heard the familiar words in that booming happy voice “Hey boy!”

“Hey pop.”

His father’s voice turned to a conspiratorial whisper, “How’s Bethany?”

“She’s good,” replied Bevil. “I’m taking good care of her.”

“You know the saying, you keep her happy and she’ll keep you safe.”

“Yup. So dad…”

“Yes son what is it? Whatever, is on your mind?” asked Bevil’s father sounding incredibly amused.

“I’m not ready, pop.” Bevil waited for a response, there was none. “I’m gonna need you to cover me at the Jamboree.”

“I’ll make you a deal, son. If you sincerely do not meet a young girl that you like, I’ll make sure you escape the Jam- boree unencumbered.”

Bevil let out a relaxed breath. “Thanks, dad, I—” “But,” his dad interrupted. “If you meet a girl and you like her, you have to promise me you’ll be honest about it.” “Yeah of course, pop. I promise.”

“Swear on the hull, boy,” said his dad with utmost seriousness.

Shit, thought Bevil.

“Swear to me, son.”

Bevil had walked into a trap. To swear on the hull was no joke. He was basically taking an oath to avert a curse. To swear on the hull meant he was swearing on the integrity of the Cyrex itself. To swear on the hull of a ship and then back out could bring about all manner of karmic disaster. “I swear on the hull,” said Bevil reluctantly, but sincerely.

“Good.” His father changed tone back to his usual jovial self. “Now, you take care of yourself and Bethany and we’ll see you here for the festivities. I’ll send you the coordinates when I have them.”

“Okay, pop. I love you. Tell mom I love her too.” “Will do, son.” His dad hung up the phone.

Well, that didn’t go anywhere near as smoothly as I expected, thought Bevil.

Bevil’s navigational computer started beeping slowly. He was approaching the solar system designated EA-90048. The system’s sun grew brighter, its light beginning to block out the distant stars around him. Bevil cut his engines, extended the solar sails and began sailing Bethany toward the asteroid belt he planned to spend the next month mining.

He had recently been on Gardena station, looking for work, when he ran into a friend of sorts named Corbin. Corbin told Bevil about the mining opportunity in exchange for some fresh greens, coffee and eggs.

Bevil knew a few men and women during his time roaming, and traded information back and forth with the ones he trusted. Corbin wasn’t a friend as much as a friendly associate, but he’d proven his trustworthiness over the years.

He sealed the deal by offering to buy Corbin dinner if the mining panned out. The two men spent the rest of

the night gaming before each retired to his own ship. Bevil woke up the next morning and departed Gardena for this uninhabited solar system.

Mining was mind numbingly dull, exhausting and even in zero gravity could be back breaking. A week of mining could feel like a month. Bevil smiled slightly. If he was really lucky, the next month would feel like a year.

  About the Author

I truly enjoy writing and it really never feels like work. Okay, mostly
never feels like work.

Folks who have read my books have said they are definitely filled with
words. These words are used in a very clever way to form sentences, which
then form paragraphs until a page is just jammed packed with them. I do this
repeatedly throughout my novels.

I am a lifelong lover of comic books, video games, science fiction and
fantasy. My favorite authors include Robert Heinlein, William Gibson and
Mark Twain.

Once the technology is perfected, I hope to own a robotic chimpanzee that
will accompany me on many adventures. We will travel the globe solving
crime, eating pie and saving the day.

I think it’s safe to assume that we’re gonna look pretty cool doing
that.

Title: Never Trust the Boss
Series: The Rosi Brothers #1
Author: Aria Bliss
Genre: Steamy Contemporary Romance
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers/Office Romance
Release Date: April 25, 2023
BLURB
He’s the demanding, sexy Greek god of a man that I never knew I needed. Which is a real inconvenience considering we can’t stand each other.
Atticus Rosi is an alpha male with aspirations of earning a corner office on the top floor. Which means he has his head so far up my father’s backside, he’ll never find his way back out.
And my dad just forced me to be Atticus’ assistant.
My orders were clear—do the job for one year, or kiss my trust fund goodbye.
But I have plans for my life—important ones—that Dad refuses to acknowledge. Why should I put my dreams and aspirations on hold just because I’m not the son he always wanted?
To say I walk into my first day of work with a serious chip on my shoulder is an understatement. I don’t want to be here, and it shows in my performance.
That’s what happens when I’m forced to do something I don’t want to do.
But Atticus is having none of it.
The worse I do at my job, the more vindictive he becomes. It starts with an epic glitter bomb episode that I’d find hilarious if it happened to someone else.
But it happened to me.
And for that, Atticus has to pay.
To our dismay, the more we fight, the more our chemistry intensifies.
With each passing day, it becomes harder and harder to ignore his expressive chocolate-brown eyes, his sexy grin, his rock-hard body, and the glimpses I get of his tattoo-covered arms when he rolls up his shirtsleeves.
The workplace fantasies running through my mind would send my dad into a tailspin. Acting on these fantasies puts my future at risk and maybe even Atticus’ job.
Unfortunately for both of us, Atticus knows how to push all my buttons, and in the best way imaginable.
I hate him for it.
Author’s Note: This is Atticus and Indigo’s story. An enemies-to-lovers, boss’ daughter, boss-assistant, forbidden workplace romance between a hot, dirty-talking half Greek tech genius who’s singularly focused on his career and a strong, take-charge-of-her-life woman with a burning desire to break free from her father’s control.

Excerpt

When she finally stopped crying, he asked, “Do you want to tell me about him?”

“No.” She backed away from him and searched her pockets for a tissue, but of course at this moment, of all times, she didn’t have one. He did, though—a whole box stood on the coffee table—and he gave her one, and she blew her nose. Her mascara was running, and her face
must be blotchy and red. “This is so humiliating,” she said. “I never do this. I feel like such an idiot.”

“Why? It’s perfectly natural. I’m glad to know you’re not so tough.”

“It’s unprofessional, and it makes me feel ugly. It’s a good thing you’re not attracted to me.”

“What?”

She peered at him, sniffling, and dabbed at her eyes. “You’re not, are you?”

“Which answer will get me in the least trouble?” he asked.

She laughed shakily. She felt a lot better. “If you were before, you wouldn’t be now.” He gave her another tissue, and she managed to get most of the mascara off. He rubbed away a stray smudge with his thumb, and his fingers brushed her cheek. The soft touch was even more comforting
than being held in his arms. She closed her eyes.

He kissed her. It was the briefest pressure of his lips against hers, gentle and sweet, but she felt it deep inside. She opened her eyes. His were wide with surprise. “I think we just went off the clock,” she said.

The life Leah planned with Jace rapidly spins out of control when she becomes obsessed with the X-rated video, and the girl in it. Leah will do whatever it takes to right her new husbands wrong, even if it means getting rid of Jessica Fox for good . . .

INTERVIEW

Tell us about your book?

My current book is called She’s Obsessed. It’s an African American fiction novel set in Chicago, IL. The main characters, Jayceon and Leah’s new perfect life together quickly turn upside down when Leah finds Jace’s deleted sex tape. Leah then becomes obsessed with hurting her new husband and the stripper she watched him with.

What is the PRIMARY benefit, above all others, that your potential reader will gain from reading this book?

She’s Obsessed allows readers to explore the gritty reality of being hurt, mad, and misunderstood. Every day we’re judged and labeled because of our actions, but we don’t stop and ask why someone is the way they are. I hope readers will relate to Leah and understand her pain and why she took obsession so far. I created a world where the characters, and the readers, could take each other by the hand and journey through this book together.

If you had to compare this book to any other book out there, which book would it be?

I don’t have a point of reference for my book. I write from my heart and soul,

and I can’t compare that to any other author or work that’s out there. However, I will say that I follow the greats very closely that inspire me, such as Carl Weber, Mary B Morrison, and James Patterson. Since the beginning of my writing career, I have leaned on their work for inspiration—I’m sure it comes out in my books.

Hundreds of thousands of books come out every year. Why should someone buy THIS book?

There are countless urban fiction books out there, but I believe someone should buy this book for several reasons. First and foremost, my book offers a raw and honest portrayal of the dangers of obsession. Unlike many other African American urban fiction books that rely on stereotypes and cliches, my book presents a nuanced and authentic perspective that will challenge readers to think critically about the antagonist’s struggles. Additionally, She’s Obsessed features relatable characters who will stay with readers long after the final page.

Who is your target audience?

This book’s target audience includes readers drawn to the themes and styles of African American fiction. Usually, females, 28-50, urban but not necessarily hood.

Primary interests? What benefits does the reader hope to gain from buying a book like this book?)

A solid read that offers more than what’s typically displayed in an urban fiction novel. There are drugs and violence, but not in a street way.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage?

I grew up in the same urban environment that I wrote about in She’s Obsessed. I used that to my advantage because I could relate more to this story and characters than when I set a story in Beverly Hills.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since publishing your work?

The most rewarding experience would be reading a review and seeing someone say, “Nick Haskins is my favorite author.” Or, “I love Nick Haskins books.” I have dreamed of people loving my writing since I was very young, so seeing that readers enjoy what I’ve worked so hard to present to them is the most rewarding.

How would you describe your writing style?

I strive for my writing style to be a powerful and engaging reading experience that will stay with my readers. I try to create characters who are complex, relatable, and memorable.

Are your characters pure fiction, or did you draw from people you know?

My characters are pure fiction. Sure, I may have a muse, but my characters come to me with their stories in hand; I just have to write them out.

Are you more of a character artist or a plot-driven writer?

I feel I can be both; it depends on the project.

What do you hope to accomplish with your book other than selling it?

To leave a lasting impression on readers and a legacy for myself that will be here long after I’m gone.

Escaping My Demons by Joseph Fagarazzi #blogtour #interview #autobiography #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

Autobiography

Date Published: November 6, 2022

Publisher: Ocean Reeve Publishing Queensland Australia

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Throughout this book we learn about the sufferance of a baby boy, unwanted by his teenage parents.

This boy grew up with an aggressive and womanising father that constantly reminded him that he was a mistake that ruined his father’s life.

While been beaten and mentally abused, all he craved from his parents was love but received nothing but humiliation and sufferance from his father.

This caused detrimental trauma to the young boy, and he grew up believing that he would never achieve anything in life.

I was this little boy, and this is my story.

What Readers Are Saying

“Great read, very compelling, could not put it down. Read in one sitting. You are a good guy, glad that I know you!”

– Peter Healey

“Reading Escaping my Demons gave me an insight into how difficult Joseph’s childhood was … This would be a good self-help book for those who have had less-than-ideal family life and the proof has shown that in the end
we make our own lives and can choose toe either be a victim or a winner.”

-Vicki Ebert

“The book ‘Escaping my Demons’ is Fagarazzi’s road map to the emotional freedom he now enjoys today.”

-Kez Wickham St George

INTERVIEW

What is the PRIMARY benefit, above all others that your potential reader will gain from reading this book?

The purpose of writing my book (Escaping My Demons) is to help victims of physical and mental abuse survive by moving forward with their lives. In doing so, I also want to raise awareness and expose biased parents for the psychological damage and the hurt they impose on their children such as I was.

If you had to compare this book to any other book out there, which book would it be?

There are similarities with a book written by Steven Palmer (Adult Children of Abusive Parents) the book is not the same but the principles and the emphasis are based on the abuse and sufferance endured by the child and the mental effect it has on the rest of the child’s life.

Hundreds of thousands of books come out every year. Why should someone buy THIS book?

Escaping My Demons is about my past and not just about me, It’s about others who have or are experiencing similar demoralising emotional issues, from me they will learn how to overcome them and thus become survivors by moving forward to greener pastures

My book Escaping My Demons will teach victims to be at their best and succeed in life as I have. It’s about them becoming self-sufficient and learning to start believing in themselves and persist to follow their dream that will eventually help them to become great achievers.

Consider my book a survival life-changing kit, written by someone that has experienced it all himself and through all the knockbacks had managed to succeed, survived and became a successful retired businessman.

Who is your target audience?

My target is all age groups, everyone and anyone that is and had experienced childhood trauma as well as the biased parents that purposely destroyed their child’s mental ability to grow and prosper.

As childhood trauma can be inherited by being neglected by your family and love but instead being, sexually, physically, and mentally abused.

As an adult, you will find this treatment of abuse will continue to be memorable and will constantly play like a video recorded in your mind.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage?

Absolutely! My upbringing and being physically beaten and mentally abused by my father have played a major role in becoming an author and I believe I would be able to express myself the way I have.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since publishing your work.

The most rewarding thing for me is having received many messages from my readers describing how I have inspired them and this to me is like receiving a golden Oscar.

How would you describe your writing style?

My writing style I believe it to be descriptive, it comes from within. It derives from the hurt that I endured from my family intermittently for years. It is a true sense of how my heart feels whilst writing. There were times whilst putting pen to paper writing my memoir a tear would fall from my face.

Are your characters pure fiction, or did you draw from people you know?

The characters in my book are real it’s of My Past…My Life…My Story!

Are you more of a character artist or a plot-driven writer?

I guess you could say I am plot-driven considering I had to plot my escape from my Demon.

What do you hope to accomplish with your book other than selling it?

My book is not about the selling side of it, it’s about helping victims of physical and mental abuse get rid of their demons and not having to wait as long as I did to move on with their lives.

The Voice of Villainy by Lona Bailey, PhD #blogtour #interview #nonfiction #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

The Betty Lou Gerson Story

Nonfiction

Date Published: January 28, 2023

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

She voiced one of Disney’s most infamous villainesses. With her husky timbre and most unforgettable cackle, Betty Lou Gerson terrified an entire
generation as Disney’s original “Cruella de Vil” in One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). Betty used her whiskey-soaked voice to give us an innovative portrait of elegant villainy beyond
entertainment’s stereotypical “old hag” antagonists in radio, film, and television. She had a prolific radio career in both Chicago and Hollywood before the silver screen and was featured in many popular television series in the 1950s and 1960s such as Perry Mason, The Dick Van
Dyke Show, and Hazel. Though “Cruella” is perhaps her most recognized role, she also performed in other beloved film classics including Cinderella (1950), Mary Poppins (1964), and Cats Don’t Dance (1997).

The great irony of Betty’s story is that while her voice frightened audiences through nearly all mediums, off mic, she was in fact no villainess at all. Betty traversed through some of the most volatile eras in American history, while overcoming many personal tragedies of her own. She was among twentieth century entertainment pioneers and an iconic voice of feminism.

INTERVIEW

Introduce yourself and tell me about what you do.

Lona Bailey is a Golden Age of Hollywood researcher and writer of “Uncredited: The Life and Career of Actress Virginia Gregg.” As a PhD and former therapist, Lona is passionate about telling the untold stories of women who perhaps weren’t finished using their own voices during their earthly journeys. Lona is a mother of three with a balanced perspective on the multidimensional elements involved in legacy-maintenance with particular interest in the preservation efforts of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Lona’s biographic works are delicately researched and written with a candid and fair pen and plenty of room for levity. Old Hollywood holds millions of secrets in its gothic sensationalism; with its dark secrets, come just as many shimmering triumphs– and Old Hollywood wouldn’t be as we know it without both.

  1. Tell me more about your journey as an author, including the writing processes?

Like many millennials, I grew up with Betty Lou Gerson’s vocal portrayal of “Cruella de Vil” in Disney’s classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians. About two years ago when I was still writing my first biography, my oldest daughter became very interested in the film and watched it incessantly for a few weeks. In reconnecting with the classic I became interested in researching the talent behind the fabulous husky villainess. In reading about Betty Lou Gerson I discovered she was born just down the road from my own hometown. Her history and career intrigued me and when I learned she did not yet have a biography, I thought what fun it would be to research and write hers.

(My Darkest Secret Book 3)

I am patient and kind. I do not envy or boast.
He is not proud or rude. He is not easily angered and always protects.
I am not self-seeking, and he does not delight in evil.
Together we define the essence of Love. But even love has challenges.
After I unlocked the door to my darkest secret, I overcame a multitude of struggles, starting with his vindictive brother. When I fought for prosecution, I became a pawn in his brother’s game, but I prevailed.
Over the last year, Justin and I have been in the calm of our life. The key to weathering through obstacles is to find a balance between the good and the terrible. But to have and to hold from this day forth may not be in our future. A surge of turbulence is thrown in our path as we attempt to make it to the altar. If a tragedy occurs when you’re supposed to say, “I do”, is fate trying to tell me that our love isn’t meant to be?
Through the ripples of life, I discover family who can never seem to be happy for me, and secrets that aren’t mine to share.
A family member disappears, and someone must know of her whereabouts. When it turns out the only person who has a clue is my daughter, it puts a horrific spin on the situation. How can my daughter be involved or know the things that she does?
As the tides rise to threaten us, our fate hangs in the balance. How our journey ends on the other side of the tempest is yet to be told.

REVIEW

This is a 3rd in a series, you definitely want to start with book 1 if you have time, (Scorn of Secrets). Although, this can also be enjoyed as a stand alone.

I’ve loved the way we have gotten to grow with these characters. There have been so many ups and downs and we have been right along for the good, the great, the bad, and the ugly. It’s been quite the journey and Madison and Justin have had my heart through it all.

That being said, this book is NO DIFFERENT than the ones before. These characters are used to the drama just like we as readers are. There are highs and lows and moments you want to pull your hair out. Evoking emotion is one of the author’s superpowers!

We delve into love and the sanctity of marriage and what creates a lasting bond. We reflect back on how the characters got to where they are. We are given some extra drama to spice things up.

Another great read.
